Time and time again I have been pushed past rotting bodies
and boiled bones on the road. The man-eaters we passed today are a sign of
what the man fears most - rape and murder.
A pregnant woman eating her own babe shows no love for the babe or it’s
father, and no hope for life. Likely a
victim of rape and hunger, the woman shows no hope for the future. This could
have been the fate of the boy too.
Roasting on a spit, charred and gutted, like the newborn babe. But this boy has the man to protect him and
most importantly he has hope burning inside of him. I’ve heard the man and the boy talk about
carrying the flame with them. Carrying
this fire with them keeps them safe from the cooking fires of others. They have hope for survival and make the
choice to fight to survive.
I think the song, No Sound But the Wind, performed by Editors shows the importance of the
relationship between father and son and the importance of keeping their hope burning
strong. I’ve included a link to a video
with images from the movie The Road. A person that calls herself Eccentricelf23 prepared
the presentation. She can be found at http://eccentricelf23.deviantart.com/.

Cannibal135: I am a cannibal on the road. Those who will not do what they need to survive are weak. The people we find on the road will end up dead anyways. It’s better to be filling our bellies than rotting on the road. There is no happy ending coming no great future to look forward to. There is only here and now and if you can’t fend for yourself you won’t survive. We are not the meek to be hunting for cans – we hunt for meat and for blood. A babe newly born is nothing but fresh meat these days. Cannibalism occurs in nature all the time. If you don’t believe me check out the link from Discover Magazine called Cannibalism - The Animal Kingdoms Dirty Little Secret

DeleteCart: That magazine series does in fact show that cannibalism is widespread throughout the animal kingdom. I suppose you consider yourselves animals now. If not, you would consider eating human flesh murder not cannibalism. I find the excerpt about chimps strangely familiar:
ReplyDelete“Our close relatives, chimps, don't care much for their fellow primates. Females commit infanticide, though the reasons are not perfectly clear. Hunting parties will chase chimps and monkeys with remarkable bloodlust. Chimps on a hunt viciously tear apart their victim, whether it's another chimp or not.”
BabyMomma: I am the mother you saw on the side of the road. Yes I was prepared to eat my baby – but it could not survive in this world anyways. When I saw the young boy with the man I was ashamed and saddened. My child has no future in this world and neither do I. (197)
